Q&A with Attorney Sominsky
Why did you choose to specialize in consumer bankruptcy?
I chose consumer bankruptcy because it lets me help real people in a meaningful
way, doing the most good quickly and affordably. By eliminating their
debts, saving their homes, and stopping the harassment, I can quickly
improve the lives of my clients and get them the fresh start they deserve.
What is the most fulfilling part of your job as a bankruptcy lawyer?
The most fulfilling part of my job is seeing the gratitude and relief
in my clients' faces as they realize they are finally debt free and
can live life without fear.
How do you view your role in the attorney-client relationship?
My role in the attorney client relationship is more than just an advocate,
but a counselor and educator as well. I carefully explain to all my clients
the requirements of the complete bankruptcy process and provide each client
a detailed, written explanation of the rules. I also meet with each client
in person three times before each case is filed to review and sign the
documents and answer any questions.
What advice would you give someone who is looking for a bankruptcy attorney?
When looking for an attorney, the key is to find someone who is experienced,
competent, accessible, affordable and understandable. All of these traits
are absolutely necessary for a successful representation. I believe my
office has all of these traits.
You have helped 1500+ people get out of debt. What have you learned?
Over the last 22 years of helping people get out of debt, I have learned
that bad things happen to good people. Most clients did nothing wrong,
and it is usually events beyond their control like illness, accident,
divorce, or job loss that causes the financial hardship leading to bankruptcy.
Bankruptcy is about second chances and a fresh start, and the vast majority
of bankruptcy filers deserve a new beginning.
What sets Leonard V. Sominsky, ESQ., PC apart from the rest?
What set my office apart from my competition is the time, effort, and
expertise we bring to each case. I spend at least 3 hours over 3 appointments
with each client, personally explaining the rules and the law and how
it applies to each situation. This level of involvement allows me to get
to know each client and their situation, and allows the client to communicate
their concerns and issues in an unrushed manner so there is a true meeting
of the minds which leads to superior service and results.
